Send an AmbassadorIf you are a manager, and when it is
not absolutely mandatory for you to be present at certain meetings
and functions, send someone on your team to take your place, share
your thoughts, and take notes on your behalf. (This can make people
feel they are more a part of your team and that they are working
WITH you and not for you.)
Surprise!Reward an individual for outstanding performance
by taking them to lunch and surprising them by having their spouse
and children present. They will be delighted and feel very appreciated.
Surprise againSend an e-mail telling people not to bring
lunch the next day. Surprise them with bringing lunch in, taking
them out, or having a cookout in the parking lot.
New hiresHave a different person take them to lunch each
day for the first two weeks. Have people phone them to introduce
themselves and welcome them.
Manage Managing Workplace Stress. . .
"Coffee or Tea?" At SBC call centers, a staff person comes
around to offer water, coffee, and snacks for them while they are
spending long hours on the phone. They make it a habit to ask them,
"Is there anything I can do for you?"
PingPong or Pool for you?If you can't afford a gym in the
workplace, how about one of these to help alleviate stress?
Family too?While this is not always possible, form sports
teams that include spouses.
Ideas to Help Improve Morale, Simplify Systems and Procedures,
and Save $!
Ditch time-cards. If your people are responsible, and they
should be, make this announcement, "Guess what, we trust you! We're
getting rid of time punch cards. You are responsible to each other
to be on time. You are now accountable to each other. (A well-known
and profitable corporation found this increased productivity, improved
morale, promoted team spirit, and saved the company thousands of
dollars per year.)
